Pothong Gate
Pothong Gate is the west gate of the Walled City of Pyongyang in Pothongmun-dong, Central District of Pyongyang city. It was built when Koguryo built the Walled City of Pyongyang in the middle of the 6th century.
The existing building was reconstructed in 1473 through several repairs and reconstruction.Pothong Gate was the gateway to northwest of the Walled City of Pyongyang and it was situated at an important place from military and traffic point of view and so Koguryo, Koryo and feudal Joson dynasty attached importance to it.
The Pothong Gate is one of eight beauty spots in Pyongyang.
It is a gracious, well-balanced beautiful building, which shows well the style of architecture of Koryo.
