“Comrades, the last decisive battle is near. Let us defend to the last the height for the great leader who gave a new life to us who had suffered from maltreatment and humiliation in the past.”It is what company commander Paek Sa Sun said to his men on the eve of the life-and-death battle against the enemies. At the time, he was already hero of the DPRK.
The enemies ceaselessely made desperate attacks on Height 1052.3 he was defending, showering tens of thousands of bombs and shells upon it a day.
At the end of more than ten rounds of fierce battles they were in short of bullets, hand grenades and even rocks to be thrown at the enemies. Paek Sa Sun and his men fought hand-to-hand battles with a single heart to finally defend the height of the country.
Later the company commander Paek Sa Sun gave full play to matchless bravery in the battles to defend every inch of the motherland. So, he was awarded the title of hero of the Republic again in January 1952.
