The Monument to the Great Victory in Yonsong
The Monument to the Great Victory in Yonsong located in the township of Yonan County, South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK was built in the beginning of the 17th century in memory of the great victory in the battle at Yonan Castle during the Imjin Fatherland War (1592-1598).
In the period of the Imjin Fatherland War the people raised loyal armies in different parts of the country to drive the enemy Japanese out of the country.
There is a proud story telling that Ri Jong Am led a volunteer army to defeat the enemy Japanese in the defense of the castle.
Recorded in the monument is the historic fact of those days.
The epigraph was made by Ri Hang Bok, the then well-known writer (a government official of the Feudal Joson Dynasty, 1556-1618).
This monument as well as the Monument to the Great Victory in Pukgwan is a precious historical monument of national treasure telling of the victory won by the Korean people in the struggle against aggressors during the Imjin Fatherland War.
